For those of you who don’t know, Georgia plays Vanderbilt tonight at 9:45 PM EST in the second round of the SEC Tournament (TV is the SEC Network). This game follows an impressive win against Arkansas (which was the Dawgs’ first win away from Stegeman Coliseum and Gwinnett Arena).
There are several reasons I think Georgia will upset Vanderbilt tonight:
First of all, the past results. The Dawgs murdered Vandy in Athens and only lost by two points on the road (in overtime).
Second, the location. The game is NOT being played at Vanderbilt’s home court. The entire tournament is being played at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Obviously, that doesn’t give Vandy the home court advantage.
Third, there will be almost no Vanderbilt OR Georgia fans in the crowd. Fans from other schools will most likely own most (if not all) of the tickets for tonight’s game. This means the Dawgs get to play in front of a crowd that doesn’t really care what happens.
Fourth, Georgia is fired up after murdering Arkansas in the final five minutes of last night’s game. Vanderbilt had the night off and already has secured a high seed. The Dawgs’ excitement just to be in the second round will probably play a big part.
This will definitely be a good one to watch. I wish it didn’t have to be at 9:45 PM, though. At least tomorrow’s Saturday.
